Studies at Pennsylvania State and San Jose State Universities in the US have demonstrated that recycled glass is an effective filtration medium as a substitute for natural sand in reticulating water filters.
Field studies conducted at a Washington-based fitness centre swimming pool showed that glass sand was able to exceed the clarity achieved with conventional sand and built on the results of related studies which showed glass sand as an effective media for municipal water treatment and septic tank filtration.
